THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) recently celebrated the 2018 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
With the theme, “Innovation for Collective Prosperity,” the 2018 NSTW celebration brought local technologies and products which create positive impacts to the daily living of ordinary Filipinos.
The venue also made the efforts and contributions of DOST closer to the communities by exhibiting such innovations which can be applied at home, in school, or even at the workplace.
A marketplace through the OneStore featuring DOST-generated and -assisted products from all over the regions also caught the attention of visitors.
Under Proclamation 169, the NSTW aims to showcase the scientific and technological breakthroughs and innovations in the country, and eventually gain substantial support from the public and private sectors to promote sustainable development.
With the comprehensive line-up of exhibits, technology fora, demonstrations, interactive activities, and special events, DOST has established its strong commitment in conveying science for the people.
The 2018 NSTW was a perfect venue in bringing together everyone in the science community from technology developers and inventors, science and technology (S&T) service providers, and the general public for potential linkages and collaborative opportunities.
The week-long, annual celebration attended by partners and stakeholders in the country has proven that a science and technology culture in the Philippines is alive.
With this, the DOST will commemorate the science and technology (S&T) journey for the past 60 years in SM Supermalls nationwide from July 22 to October 21, 2018.
As the premiere S&T authority in the Philippines providing central direction, leadership, and coordination of all scientific and technological activities to support national development, the DOST will be celebrating with SM in honoring the Department’s milestones.
All which just started with an aspiration to break new grounds for innovation to economic progress in 1958, the DOST have been trailblazing and has constantly evolved into one of the most respected departments in the government throughout the years.
Today, the DOST has been continuously moving to build dreams and create significant change for the people through science, technology, and innovation.
A brief glimpse of the DOST’s history, commitment, technologies, and services will be exhibited in selected participating SM Supermalls across the regions.
The DOST through the TAPI will feature the technologies developed by its attached agencies as means to help solve the pressing problems in health, agriculture, nutrition, transportation, disaster-risk management, and climate change, which are widely present in the country.
DIWATA-2, the first Filipino-made satellite and the automated guideway transit, are just some of the technologies that will be featured in the exhibits.
Filipino-developed products of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) assisted by the DOST from all over the regions will also share the spotlight in the exhibit.
The series of exhibits in the different regions started last July 22 at the SM Cherry in Antipolo City, and will culminate at the SM City Cagayan de Oro on Oct. 21. (jaypeeyap@ymail.com/PN)
