ILOILO City – The rehabilitation of Infante Street in the City Proper has prompted the Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO) to re-route passenger jeepneys and private cars.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) started the rehabilitation on Nov. 20.
“Tanan nga naga agi sa Infante Street going to Barangay North Baluarte gin pa-left turn namon sa Delgado Street,” TMTRO officer-in-charge Robert Foerster told Panay News.
Public utility jeepneys (PUJs) passing Infante Street are Leganes Highway, Villa (Mohon terminal), Ungka ITGSI, and some provincial jeepneys going to the Iloilo Terminal Market.
All provincial jeepneys going to Iloilo Terminal Market (also known as “Super”) upon reaching the corner of Infante and Delgado streets have to turn left going to Delgado Street, then turn right to Jalandoni Street.
Ungka ITGSI jeepney, on the other hand, must turn left upon reaching the corner of Infante and Delgado Street, turn right to Jalandoni Street, turn left to Ledesma Street and take their usual route.
Leganes jeepneys must turn left upon reaching the corner of Infante and Delgado Street, turn right to Jalandoni Street, turn right to Ledesma Street then take their usual route.
Presently, DPWH is rehabilitating the right lane of the asphalt Infante Street. It will be changed into concrete, according to City District Engineer Rodney Gustilo. The street is currently full of potholes.
After the right lane of Infante Street is finished, the rehabilitation of the left lane will follow. The budget is P13 million because it is much longer, said Gustilo.
Target date of completion is this Dec. 30.
TMTRO’s Foerster urged motorists to follow the instructions of traffic enforcers. The traffic light on Infante Street was temporarily turned off.
“May mga sign boards gin butang ang contractor. They just have to follow them. May mga (traffic enforcers) man dira,” added Foerster./PN
