ILOILO National High School (INHS) and Iloilo City National High School split the championships in the boys and girls Under-18 division of the Iloilo City Age Group Futsal Tournament over the weekend at City High.
INHS captured the boys title after overcoming Central Philippine University 3-1. Jalandoni Memorial NHS bagged third place.
Other boys participants were City High, TCT-AR Lanit National High School, Ateneo de Iloilo, and PAREF Westbridge School for Boys.
On the distaff side, City High claimed the tiara after a 1-0 escape over CPU. INHS, meanwhile, brought home the bronze medal. Finishing fourth and last was Jalandoni Memorial NHS.
The Iloilo City Age Group Futsal Tournament is part of a public-private community partnership that aims to provide more tournaments for public schools, said Rommel Castro of the city government’s Sports Development Division.
“Mayor Jed (Patrick Mabilog) recognizes the need to provide sports activities for our youths to divert their attention from illegal drugs,” Castro said. “[We] also believe more tournaments are needed for futsal school teams in the city.”
The tournament, which is in line with Iloilo City’s 80th Charter Day celebration, will resume on Aug. 12 with U-15 boys (born in 2002) and Aug. 13 with U-12 boys (born in 2005)./PN
