ILOILO City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) in the city and province of Iloilo has heightened its security measures with the start of the “ber” months.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) beefed up their visibility in malls, transport terminals, tourist spots, and other heavily crowded areas to curb the increase of crime incidents, particularly theft and robbery, that usually occur due to heightened economic activity and shoppers during the Christmas season.
According to ICPO director Colonel Kim Legada, they have intensified visibility patrols and strengthened police presence in public areas, and closely coordinated with stakeholders to ensure peace and order.
The ICPO likewise reminds the public to remain vigilant, alert, and cautious to ensure safety and security throughout the season.
With September also as a National Crime Prevention Month (NCPM), Legasa said the public should know the importance of awareness and collective responsibility in preventing crime as the increase in activities, gatherings, and commercial transactions during this festive season are expected.
“I would like to reiterate the importance of vigilance and cooperation in maintaining peace and order. Security is everyone’s priority. Crime prevention is not only the work of the police but a shared duty of the whole community. By staying alert and working together, we can keep Iloilo City safe and secure for all,” the ICPO director added.
For his part, IPPO director Colonel Bayani Razalan ordered all police chiefs to enhance visibility especially during night time.
“We have towns with malls and transport terminals in their areas. We need to place more cops there,” said Razalan.
He also told his men to intensify intelligence monitoring, target hardening, and anti-criminality operations to deter criminals and protect the public.
“The public can dial 911 for a quicker response in case of emergency,” Razalan added./PN
