ACTRESS-SINGER Janella Salvador has taken a stand against individuals who show disregard for local films, expressing her disappointment with those who belittle Filipino cinema in favor of international productions.

The issue came to light when Salvador shared a post from producer Richard Juan about her and Thai actor Win Metawin’s film “Under Parallel Skies” on her Instagram story, highlighting a conversation where someone admitted to not watching local films due to lack of interest.

In the caption of the post, Juan expressed how hurtful such sentiments are, especially for aspiring filmmakers like himself, highlighting the challenges faced by Filipino filmmakers in gaining support for their projects.

He emphasized the misconception that international films are often associated solely with Hollywood productions, overlooking the potential of Filipino films to garner international acclaim and recognition.

As Salvador reposted Juan’s message, she added her own commentary, condemning the attitude of those who deem themselves superior for local films.

“(I)t doesn’t make you sound more sophisticated just straight up arrogant and condescending,” she said in an Instagram story.

“Under Parallel Skies” is slated to premiere in Singapore on May 1 and in Thailand on May 9. (ABS-CBN News)
