ILOILO – Authorities have launched an investigation on the killing of a 29-year-old man in Janiuay town.
Rostom Llanora, a resident of the town’s Aquino Nobleza West, was discovered lying motionless and with a gunshot wound near his motorcycle along the boundary of barangays Matag-ub and Madong around 9:46 p.m. on Monday, April 28, raising questions about the circumstances leading to his death.
Police Captain Melvin Mercado, deputy chief of the Janiuay Municipal Police Station, said initial findings ruled out a motorcycle accident.
No skid marks were seen on the road and the victim bore no injuries that would suggest a crash. His motorcycle was also found without damage, Mercado said.
According to witnesses, only a single loud bang was heard in the area, initially mistaken for an electrical transformer explosion. No arguments or suspicious movements were reported before the gunshot.
Police believed Llanora may have been pursued or was riding with the suspect before he was shot.
He sustained a gunshot wound on the right side of his back, believed to be inflicted by a .12 caliber firearm. He was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.
As of this writing, authorities were still working to determine the identity of the gunman and the motive behind the attack./PN
