BACOLOD City – A scientific researcher from Kyoto University in Japan visited Bago City Government in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, October 30.
Doctor Takahiro Hayashi presented to Bago City’s Mayor Nicholas Yulo and other city government officials the Salibu Rice Ratoon Cropping System, an innovative technique in rice farming that involves ratooning, which allows farmers to harvest rice multiple times from the same plant.
The method can increase productivity and improve the efficiency of rice cultivation, offering potential benefits for local rice farmers by reducing planting time and resources, Dr. Hayashi said.
Bago City is known as the rice granary of Negros Occidental for its vast rice plantations, producing more than 30 percent of the province’s rice supply.
The 11,012.49 hectares of land in the city are irrigated, thus making the locality the rice granary of the province, according to the City Agriculture Office./PN
