John Lloyd clarifies ‘Culion’ appearance

JOHN Lloyd Cruz belied the assumptions of fans that his surprising appearance in “Culion,” one of the films vying for a competition slot in the 2019 Metro Manila FIlm Festival, will end his hiatus from acting.

The actor made the clarification in a statement Tuesday where he said he will only actually appear in one scene in the film.

“I thought including me in the teaser was preemptive. It was the opposite of what I actually requested and agreed on,” he said.

“But as much as I am drawn to the idea of letting my work, of any kind, have its own life and take its own course in terms of output (unmindful of how it mutates, grows and sometimes gets diminished) I am also wary of misleading an audience. That wouldn’t be fair. Hence, I felt compelled to clarify my participation in the film,” he added.

Released Monday, the first teaser trailer of “Culion” sparked many enthusiastic online reports and rumors claiming John Lloyd’s return to movies after his face in the closing seconds of the video – a first look at his first film role in two years after starring in the Star Cinema drama “Finally Found Someone.”

Prior to his surprising appearance, John Lloyd’s participation in the film was kept secret.  His part has yet to be detailed as of writing, though producer Shandii Bacolod has hinted that his role “is very important” and is connected to Meryll’s character. (Push)
