ILOILO City – The Jordan police station in the island province of Guimaras was placed under lockdown. Ten police personnel tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19).
According to Police Colonel Pablito Asmod, director of the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO), on Saturday (July 24) a police officer underwent reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test after his wife got infected with COVID-19. The cop tested positive for the viral disease, too.
Eleven more police officers who had close contact with the cop were swabbed on Wednesday.
The result came out yesterday and nine were positive for COVID-19. The remaining two were waiting for their results.
Asmod said the nine infected personnel – all asymptomatic – were at the Jordan police station.
The lockdown would last for four days.
Other cops not tagged as close contacts were moved to a substation.
“All negative personnel are temporarily in our Alibhon substation. After four days they can go back to the station while all positive will be transferred to the Jordan facility,” Asmod said.
Asmod reminded his men to take necessary precaution.
“That’s the nature of our work. It is very risky because we are dealing people, but we have to work,” Asmod added./PN
