JORDAN, Guimaras – This town record nine new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on May 14.
Eight of these were in Barangay Bugnay while one was in Barangay San Miguel.
According to the Municipal Health Office (MHO), the Barangay Bugnay cases were all close contacts of an index case in the village.
These were eight cases:
* 24-year-old female
* 23-year-old male
* 10-year-old male
* two-year-old female
* 23-year-old female
* eight-month baby
* 17-year-old female
* 29-year-old male
They were all asymptomatic.
The case in Barangay San Miguel, on the other hand, was a 61-year-old female showing symptoms.
She was confined in a hospital in Iloilo City.
These nine new cases brought to 143 the total COVID-19 infections in Jordan since recording started last year.
Of the 143 cases, 13 remain active because 125 already recovered while five died.
The deaths were in Barangay San Miguel (two), Barangay Rizal (two) and Barangay Maravilla (one).
Mayor Ruben Corpuz urged residents to avoid large gatherings and unnecessary travels to stop the spread of COVID-19.
He also encouraged senior citizens and persons with comorbidities to have themselves vaccinated against COVID; just contact Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams for scheduling.
Corpuz again reminded people to observe the health protocols – wearing of facemask and face shield, observing physical distancing proper hand-washing./PN
