KALIBO, Aklan – The Sanguniang Bayan (SB) here is girding for its application for International Standardization Organization (ISO) certification.

Vice mayor Cynthia Dela Cruz said that they are now starting filing necessary documents to attain the Quality Management System Standard in a bid to improve its transparency on legislative processes.

Being an ISO institution means that the agency is maintaining a seal of quality and are implementing an internationally-recognized standard, which seeks to strive for continual improvement, resulting to higher level of effectiveness, efficiency,  and credibility in public service delivery.

“It is a difficult process but through the cooperation of all the council members and all our legislative staff, this is possible,” said Dela Cruz on Monday during their session.

The SB members are also undergoing assessment and awareness training under the auspices of the Development Academy of the Philippines being the country’s National Productivity Organization and a member of the technical working group on advocacy and capability-building of the government quality management committee.

The DAP provides training and technical assistance on various productivity and quality improvement approaches interventions to government agencies.

Dela Cruz said if this will materialize, the Kalibo SB is the first Sanguniang Bayan in the province to attain ISO.

“After the SB, other municipal department agencies will also embark on ISO certification as it’s been a long plan of the local government. They will then coordinate with the DAP,” she added./PN
