FILIPINO-American singer Sophia Laforteza of global girl group KATSEYE will temporarily step back from upcoming promotional activities to prioritize her mental health, her management announced.
HYBE x Geffen (HxG), KATSEYE’s management, said in a statement that Laforteza will be temporarily unable to participate in promotional activities as she takes time to recover.
The agency said Laforteza has been receiving its full support and, following consultations with medical professionals, was advised to take an extended period of rest and continue receiving care to ensure her recovery.
“While Sophia herself is eager to perform alongside her members, the health, safety, and long-term well-being of our artists will always remain our highest priority,” HxG said.
The management added that it will continue supporting Laforteza throughout her recovery and plans to reassess her condition in September before providing fans with another update.
HxG also thanked KATSEYE’s fans, known as EYEKONS, for their understanding and continued support for the singer.
In a separate Instagram story, Laforteza acknowledged that the decision to take a break was difficult.
“It truly breaks my heart to have to miss out on a lot,” she said, adding that she is learning that “health has to come first.”
Laforteza said she realized that taking care of her mind and body is necessary for her to continue doing what she loves.
She also assured fans that she will continue working to recover and return stronger, while asking them to continue supporting KATSEYE.
Laforteza is the second KATSEYE member to take a hiatus. Earlier, member Manon stepped back from activities to focus on her personal health and well-being.
KATSEYE, formed through the reality competition series “Dream Academy,” is composed of Laforteza, Manon, Daniela, Lara, Megan and Yoonchae. (ABS-CBN News)
