MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo and United City Football Club remained struggling in the 2021 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League after sustaining separate group stage defeats.
The Iloilo City-based football club sustained its third loss from South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai FC, 3-0, on Friday at the LEO Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Oh Se Hun stunned Kaya FC with his 12th-minute conversion and completed his brace with a 40th-minute hit. In the second half, Ulsan Hyundai’s lead spread further behind Valeri Qazaishvili’s 48th-minute goal to maintain the team’s untarnished slate in the tournament.
“I’m a little bit frustrated. Maybe our lack of game experience showed,” Kaya-Iloilo head coach Graham Harvey said.
Meanwhile, the United City FC earned its second consecutive downfall from Kawasaki Frontale of Japan, 8-0, on Friday night at the Lokomotiv Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Kaoru Mitoma started Kawasaki’s onslaught with a header off a cross in the 33rd minute. The lead doubled before the halftime break via Ryota Oshima’s conversion.
A 50th-minute hit from Leandro Damiao increased Japan’s lead further, while Kento Tachibanada drilled three consecutive points for a 6-0 hole.
Finishing the Japan-based football club’s rampage against United City was Mitoma’s second goal of the match at the 82nd minute and Yasuto Wakizaka’s conversion at the 92nd-minute mark.
Kaya-Iloilo will have a chance to avenge their loss to Ulsan Hyundai as both teams will face each other anew tonight, while the United City will battle Kawasaki Frontale again./PN
