Kim Chiu lamented how some wanted to “silence” her after she aired her criticisms of the government, particularly regarding the recent shooting incident at the Senate.
Chiu had criticized the incident, which happened while Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa — who faces an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) over his alleged involvement in former President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs — was seeking refuge inside the Senate building. Dela Rosa was discovered to have left the Senate premises after the commotion.
Chiu had argued that the incident would have been avoided if “a certain individual” had immediately surrendered to the authorities.
The actress-TV host through her X page on Friday, May 15, then hinted at being attacked for sharing her sentiment on the matter.
“Nakakalungkot. That’s what happens when concern and opinion don’t align with them — gusto agad patahimikin. Nasanay na ako,” she said. “Oo, Bisaya ko, pero Pilipino rin akong may karapatang magsalita at magpahayag ng saloobin.”
She stressed that it pains her to witness such sorry events in the government, especially as someone who fulfills her responsibilities as a taxpayer.
She then reminded the public, “Hindi po tayo ang magkakalaban. Pare-pareho lang tayong mamamayan. Wala tayong kapangyarihang tulad nila, kaya sana dili mu mangaway oi.”
Aside from Chiu, other celebrities who aired their concern and dismay over the recent shooting were Bianca Gonzalez, Donny Pangilinan, Agot Isidro and Ogie Diaz. (Anne Pasajol © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
