ILOILO City – Police in this city assured the Korean community of their safety.
In a dialogue at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) on Friday, they promised the Koreans help whenever the latter need it.
Around 14 Korean nationals attended the dialogue.
Moon Dae Jin, president of the Iloilo Korean United Community Association, Inc., stressed that their security is their main concern.
“We have been living in Iloilo City for 10 years now,” the Korean said. “Actually Iloilo City is a very safe area.”
Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, city police director, stressed that they treat Koreans fairly.
“Dapat i-assure [sila] nga wala may matabo diri sa ila sa Iloilo (City),” said Canieso.
The ICPO also gave the Koreans the contact numbers of all police stations.
Canieso disclosed that the Koreans wanted to have a regular meeting with the police, especially on peace and order.
The ICPO also plans to have dialogues with other foreign nationals.
“Gin-una lang naton ang mga Koreans because of the incident,” Canieso said, referring to the abduction and killing of a South Korean businessman in the Philippine National Police national headquarters. “Kita ta man nga medyo nabulagâ ang tanan.”
Police officers were implicated in the abduction of Jee Ick-Jo on Oct. 18 last year.
