La Salle escapes Hercor in Capiz

DE LA SALLE University Green Archers survived an endgame run by Hercor College Jaguars for an 88-77 victory in an exhibition match in Roxas City.

Veterans Aljun Melecio, Leonard Santillan, Andrei Caracut, and Justine Baltazar and rookies Brandon Bates and Taane Te Kira Samuel bannered the offense for Green Archers on Saturday.

Kib Montalbo also made a good account of himself with eight steals while former Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts star Miguel Ives Corteza also had solid contributions for De La Salle.

“Our team is still rebuilding so tune-up games like this will be beneficial in developing our chemistry,” said Green Archers head coach Louie Gonzalez. “We also want to test our new players, how they play along with our veterans.”

Green Archers made an early 28-14 advantage behind Melecio, Santillan and Samuel. In the second period, Caracut and Jose Go IV contributed for a 48-33 lead at the half.

DLSU remained dominant in the third, surging to its largest lead in the match 69-53. Jaguars tried to make a run in the final quarter on consecutive triples but could only come to as close as 11 points.

The Green Archers-Jaguars exhibition match was part of Capiztahan 2018, which celebrates the 117th founding anniversary of the provincial government of Capiz./PN
