Laborer falls in Banga drug op

BANGA, Aklan – Antidrug personnel arrested a laborer in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Mambog in this town.

The 50-year-old Ray “Bugs” Gonzales was caught after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer around 12:30 p.m. on June 5, a police report showed.

Gonzales – a surrenderee under the Philippine National Police’s “Oplan Tokhang” – had been under surveillance for more than a month before his arrest.

Police said he had been involved in the drug trade in Kalibo, Numancia, Banga, and Malinao.

The suspect’s mobile phone, motorcycle and P595 cash were all confiscated and now under the custody of the police.

Officers of the Banga municipal police station, Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Aklan staged the sting operation.

Gonzales was brought to Iloilo City for drug testing. The suspected drugs seized from him were also sent to Iloilo City for examination.

Police said Gonzales will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
