BACOLOD City – Following the announcement of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson that he will seek a final term in the 2025 midterm elections, rumors started circulating that Pampanga’s 2nd District’s congresswoman and former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will seek the province’s gubernatorial seat.
Lacson and Arroyo met in a formal dinner last week.
According to the governor, he does not believe Arroyo will challenge him in 2025, adding that the dinner was arranged by her relative, Rose Lacson.
Also in attendance was Arroyo’s husband, Jose Miguel, a native of Negros Occidental.
Lacson said the political rumor is being spread by somebody who did the same in the past. He declined to name the individual.
The Arroyo family owns large swaths of farmland in the province, particularly in the 5th District, although they are largely based in Pampanga.
The former president’s name had also been floated in past elections in the province.
She visits the province regularly to check on the projects implemented during her presidency. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
