Lady ‘drug group member,’ 2 others fall in San Carlos

BACOLOD City – A suspected lady member of the Virtucio Drug Group and police “high-value target” was arrested with two male companions around 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Quickstay Pension House, Southvilla 3, Eco-Tourism Highway in Barangay Palampas, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Superintendent D’Artagnan Katalbas, Jr., San Carlos City police head, identified the suspects as Mary Joy Mahinay Chiu, 24, of Barangay 2, San Carlos City; John Ron Vergara Lucas , 24, also a “high-value target” of Barangay 5 in the city; and Rafael Nemenzo Tuhao,18, of Barangay Rizal in the city.

During the buy-bust operation, police seized ten elongated sachets of suspected shabu, including the buy bust item, one Samsung cell phone, one bundle of empty sachets, one .38 caliber revolver with three live bullets, six live bullets of 5.56 mm, P1,400 in cash and P1,000 buy-bust money, and other drug paraphernalia.

Also found in the possession of Chiu were seven elongated sachets of suspected shabu and one Cloudfone mobile. Meanwhile, Tuhao yielded six sachets of suspected shabu.

The confiscated items have an estimated market value of P48,000.

The suspects have been detained at the San Carlos City Police Station lockup facility.  They face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002; and Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
