BACOLOD City – The price of roast pork or lechon has increased.
Loreto Toledo, proprietor of a lechon shop in Purok Lechonan, Barangay 36, said in a radio interview that the price of lechon has increased to P700 per kilo, or P100 more compared to last year’s P600 per kilo.
Whole lechon weighing between 14 to 16 kilos, meanwhile, are being sold at between P8,000 to P9,000.
The increase was also due to the price hike on live pigs being bought from the southern part of Negros Occidental and from neighboring Negros Oriental.
Despite the price increase, Toledo said the lechon business is still good and they are expecting more customers in the coming days.
However, the price of lechon could further increase to as much as P800 to P900 per kilo prior to Christmas Day and the New Year’s Day celebrations./PN
