MANILA – Family comes first.
Nielex “Lex” Tupas resigned as executive director and chief operating officer of the National Youth Commission (NYC).
“Today is my last working day at the NYC central office,” Tupas said on Facebook on Friday. “Iloilo, I shall return.”
Then President Benigno Aquino III appointed the former Iloilo City councilor into the NYC in November 2015.
“I tendered my irrevocable resignation to the President (Rodrigo Duterte) thru Chairperson Aiza (Seguerra) last April 6 effective this month [sic],” read part of Tupas’ Facebook post.
Tupas cited “family” as reason for his leaving the NYC.
“Layô sa asawa. Layô sa kabataan,” he told Panay News. “Kabudlayan ako, especially after work hours. Naintindihan ko na subong ang mga overseas Filipino workers.”
“I feel guilty that I can go to other events but I cannot go to my children’s programs because of my duty to the nation,” he added. “Being in Manila was really hard. I cannot go home to my wife and kids every day.”
There were times when he was unable to go home to Iloilo for a whole month, said the youngest son of the late Niel Tupas Sr., former governor of Iloilo province.
“Damo ako ginakadtuan. Sa Bangkok, sa Cambodia, because it is a national position. Nabudlayan ako,” said Tupas. “But thankful ako sa kay Chairman Aiza kag sa mga commissioners.”
Meanwhile Tupas said he plans to resume his local and international professorial duty.
He will also accept an offer from a “big private company” focusing on the grassroots.
Seguerra thanked Tupas for all the help he had given him over the years. He considers working with Tupas “an honor.”
“Thank you for being my partner mula pagpasok ko dito hanggang ngayon,” said Seguerra. “I appreciate you and everything you’ve done for me, the Commission, and the Filipino youth. Alam ko matagal mo nang inaasam makasama ang pamilya mo at masaya ako na mangyayari na ito.”/PN
