Lifesavers to face beach, pool challenge

SAN JOSE, Antique – Lifesavers all over the country will be in the province for the second installment of the “Great Titan” beach and pool challenge.

The Philippine Life Saving Society, Inc. (PLSSI) organizes the event, which is slated on May 15 to 17.

PLSSI is a nongovernment organization dedicated to reduce drowning incidents in the country.

Provincial Board member Pio Sumande, center head of the PLSSI in Antique, said participants will compete in the cruise channel swim from Barangay Butuan to Nogas Island in Anini-y town for the beach challenge.

“There will be a 1-mile cruise channel swim for participants without life jackets to Nogas Island,” Sumande said.

The pool challenge will be a 100-meter and 200-meter run-swim-run combo event.

“The pool event is also to test how fast a lifesaver could rescue a drowning victim,” added Sumande.

About 50 PLSSI members from Manila and Siquijor, among others are expected to join the event.

A welcome dinner will be held for them on May 15. Gov. Rhodora Cadiao is expected to be in the dinner.

The pool event will be on the following day at the Orr Beach Resort in Tobias Fornier.

The beach event, on the other hand, will be on May 17. (With PNA/PN)
