ILOILO City – The city government is poised to impose longer curfew hours for minors.
Those below 18 years old, unless accompanied by their parents, will be prohibited from loitering from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
He told Panay News he may be able to issue a directive today for its implementation.
“I have instructed the City Legal Office to draft an executive order extending the curfew hours for minors,” said Treñas.
The mayor explained that this move aims to “limit non-essential movement of minors.” He may hold parents or guardians of the erring minors liable.
The city government has an existing curfew ordinance for minors. It is from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The curfew was instituted a few years back to address the surge in late night ruckuses that usually involved minors.
Furthermore, the city mayor said he already gave Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director Colonel Eric Dampal instructions to increase police visibility in the metro.
He likewise enjoined cops to work with barangay tanods and officials to improve security in public plazas./PN
