ILOILO City – Around 200 people from the private sector attended the security summit that the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) organized recently.
The summit was aimed at instilling the “concept of neighborhood and cooperation” in the residents of the city, the PRO-6 spokesperson Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines told Panay News.
The gathering was held two days after New People’s Army rebels raided the police station in Maasin, Iloilo and four days after police officers in this city held an exercise simulating a terrorist attack.
Owners, managers and officers of hotels and security agencies in the city attended.
According to Sangrines, the locals must look out for each other like a family.
Whoever sees any negative or dangerous activity near them is encouraged to immediately report to the police regardless where the activity happens and who are involved or affected, Sangrines said.
“This promotes vigilance, alertness and concern for everyone,” she said.
PRO-6 director Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, who initiated the summit, said they were primarily reaching out to sectors in charge of security.
Insurgency and terrorism are everybody’s concern, he said.
There are no Maute group fighters in the city and province of Iloilo right now but the locals must remain vigilant, said Sangrines.
She noted that crowded areas, including malls, churches and hospitals, are common targets of terroristic attacks./PN
