Looking for your “Forever Job”? Here’s what to consider

A “FOREVER HOME” is a space that suits your needs.  It’s a home you plan to live in for the long term.  Thus, you want it to be comfortable and cozy.  As your needs change, you also want your space to be adaptable to your life goals.

During the lockdown, home improvement channels were brimming with DIY tips and tricks to make living spaces feel like “forever homes”.  But a closer look tells us that what matters most isn’t size.  When it comes to our sanctuaries, what’s most important is how the space works for you and your needs, and how this space makes you feel.

The same rings true when it comes to finding a job.

What’s your dream job?

For many, a dream job is work you’re good at.  It pays well.  It’s work that helps others and is in an environment with support between and among management and employees.  Since it’s a dream job, we’re also looking into a good work-life balance.

What if it isn’t your passion?

Steve Jobs was passionate about Zen Buddhism before entering the DigiTech industry.  Condoleezza Rice was a talented, classical pianist before entering politics.   Many well-known career giants didn’t have their current careers as their first passion.

Truth be told, following your passion can lead you astray. Many of today’s well-known successful icons found their passion by doing work that was first meaningful and enjoyable.

The mistake people usually make when working out their dream job is to begin by imagining different jobs, and THEN think about how satisfying it would feel.  Think about the last time you planned for a grand vacation at the beach post lockdown.  You were so excited about it as the holiday drew near but when it actually happened, you realized it was… ok.  Just ok.  You were happier during the days leading to the vacation itself.

The same goes for many who aim to find a job they could call their forever job.

Great companies often share these characteristics…
