ILOILO City – Residents should continue to expect cloudy skies, intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the week as a low pressure area (LPA) and, later, the southwest monsoon influence the weather over Iloilo City.
The Iloilo City Operations Center said the LPA will continue to affect the city from Monday until Wednesday, bringing generally cloudy conditions with isolated to scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
On Monday, June 29, temperatures are expected to range from 26 to 32 degrees Celsius, with the heat index remaining high at 39 to 42 degrees Celsius despite the rainy weather. Similar conditions are forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday, although the likelihood of rainfall will increase, making midweek the wettest period in the five-day outlook.
Beginning Thursday, July 2, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is expected to become the dominant weather system. While skies may turn partly cloudy at times, rain showers and thunderstorms are still likely, especially during the afternoon and evening.
Daytime temperatures will remain between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius until Friday, while humidity is expected to stay high, resulting in hot and humid conditions whenever the sun breaks through the clouds.
Earlier Monday afternoon, the city recorded moderate rainfall in several monitoring stations, prompting Orange Advisories in parts of Iloilo City. Authorities warned residents living near flood-prone areas to stay alert for possible flooding as additional rains are expected in the coming days.
The Operations Center also advised motorists to drive carefully on wet and slippery roads and urged the public to remain updated with official weather bulletins, as conditions may change rapidly.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the midday heat, carry umbrellas when going outdoors, and continue monitoring advisories from the Iloilo City Operations Center and the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration./PN
