BACOLOD City — The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) has warned public utility vehicle operators, drivers, and conductors against harassment, verbal abuse, and other forms of passenger misconduct following an alleged body-shaming incident involving a college student in Bacolod City.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 14, in Barangay Pahanocoy and allegedly involved a conductor of a modernized jeepney with plate number CBE 7265 operated by the United Negros Transport Cooperative (UNETCO).
The LTO-NIR Intelligence and Investigation Unit issued Show Cause Orders to the vehicle operator, driver, and conductor as part of its administrative investigation into the incident.
In a statement, the LTO-NIR said UNETCO had placed the driver and conductor under a three-day suspension while the cooperative awaits a formal written complaint from the students involved.
The agency said it would not hesitate to impose the maximum penalties allowed under the law for body shaming, verbal abuse, passenger intimidation, and other violations.
These may include the suspension or revocation of a driver’s license and sanctions against the vehicle’s registration, the LTO-NIR said.
LTO-NIR Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Jeck Conlu said modernized public utility vehicles were introduced to improve the commuting experience and should not become venues for harassment, disrespect, or unsafe driving practices.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting commuters and ensuring that passengers are treated with safety, respect, and dignity while using public transportation.
