AKLAN — All 178 public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers who underwent surprise drug testing in Boracay Island tested negative for illegal drugs under the joint “Oplan Harabas” operation of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The operation was conducted by personnel from the LTO Western Aklan and Kalibo District Offices in coordination with PDEA-Aklan at transport terminals across the island.

The initiative is part of the intensified road safety campaign of LTO Region 6 ahead of the opening of classes. It also supports the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program and aims to ensure the safe travel of students and other commuters.

According to LTO-6, the operation seeks to ensure that public transport drivers are physically and mentally fit to operate vehicles, especially during peak travel periods.

Authorities emphasized that maintaining drug-free and responsible drivers is essential in promoting road safety and preventing accidents involving public transport.

The agency added that it continues to strengthen enforcement operations and safety measures to ensure compliance with transportation regulations and safeguard the riding public across Western Visayas./PN
