ILOILO — With Christmas travel expected to peak in the days ahead, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6 has launched an intensified safety crackdown across major transport hubs and highways in Iloilo to reduce road accidents and protect thousands of holiday commuters.
Under Oplan Biyaheng Ayos! “PASKO 2025,” LTO-6 began comprehensive inspections on December 20, covering bus terminals, major roads, airports, and seaports, with the operation set to run until January 4, 2026. The campaign targets the traditional surge in passenger traffic during the year-end holidays, when road risks are historically higher.
On the opening day, enforcement teams from the Regional Law Enforcement Section (RLES), led by Relin B. Reyes, fanned out to key terminals in Mohon, Ceres, and the People’s Terminal in Pavia, where hundreds of public utility vehicles underwent strict roadworthiness and safety inspections.
Vehicles were checked for essential safety components such as brakes, lights, and tires, while drivers’ licenses and other documents were verified to ensure compliance with transport regulations.
LTO-6 said these inspections are critical during the holidays, when heavier traffic and heightened passenger volume increase the likelihood of road mishaps.
Beyond terminals, LTO-6 personnel have also been deployed along major thoroughfares to manage traffic flow, conduct roadside inspections, and monitor airports and seaports across Western Visayas. The agency said the expanded visibility is meant to reassure commuters and deter unsafe driving practices during the peak travel period.
To assist travellers, LTO-6 has likewise set up Public Assistance Desks in strategic terminals, providing motorists and passengers with on-the-spot help, information, and quick resolution of transport-related concerns amid the holiday rush.
“As we approach Christmas festivities, let us embrace the joy of travel while reinforcing our shared responsibility to maintain safety on our roads,” Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II said.
LTO-6 urged commuters and drivers to remain cautious, follow traffic rules, and cooperate with enforcement teams to ensure safe and orderly travel throughout the holiday season./PN
