MANILA – Maharlika Manila is seeking a club license from the Philippines Football League (PFL) that will make them eligible to compete in the 2020 season, which is being targeted to start next month.

Maharlika Manila team owner Anton del Rosario said his football club is now doing the necessary paperwork that will be submitted to the PFL as part of the application process.

“We are in the process of getting our license,” del Rosario said over at the Usapang Sports of Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports. “We don’t want to commit to saying that we are playing in the PFL because there could be things that do get in the way stopping us.”

“Until that point in time (when the club gets its license), I don’t want to say that we are playing in the PFL just yet. Until I get that license in hand, that is the day that I will announce it,” he added.

Del Rosario, however, said that regardless of how the club license application at PFL will progress, the Maharlika Manila will play very soon.

“You can guarantee that Maharlika FC, whether we’re playing in the PFL or maybe in the WFL (Weekend Futbol League) or anywhere else, will be a team out here in the Philippines, and we will be creating something for the people,” del Rosario said.

Unlike the PFL, the WFL is not sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board, making it “semi-professional” by definition./PN
