BORACAY – Residents in this famed-island resort and in mainland Malay, Aklan now would need to take extra care of their undies.
Malay town councilor Maylyn Aguirre-Graf recently revived her proposal to ban hanging of drying underwear outside one’s house.
“It is high time to regulate the drying of undies in public view in our town,” Graf said. “It has become an eyesore for tourists visiting the island.”
The former barangay captain had been successful in stopping the air-drying of clothes publicly in Barangay Motag, Malay.
Graf wanted to replicate Barangay Motag’s success across all barangays in the town, adding other countries imposed rules and restrictions on the practice of hanging clothes on the line.
Residents nowadays use the traditional method of drying laundry under the sun in their backyards to save household electricity consumption. But others noted this as an “unsightly practice.”
Meanwhile, Graf planned to limit posters and advertisements in the town to minimize its hazardous impact to the environment.
“Maraming posters at advertisements ng mga companies ang nakadikit sa mga bakod, dapat i-regulate din natin, sa mga sari-sari stores lang dapat,” added Graf.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
