MANILA — Actress-singer Sharon Cuneta drew laughter — and political buzz — after playfully teasing President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. about his choice of running mate in the 2022 elections during a star-studded gala in Intramuros on Thursday night.
Speaking before a live audience at “An Evening with the Stars: A Gala Celebrating the Stars Who Continue to Light Our Way” at the Foro de Intramuros, Cuneta briefly referenced the President’s vice presidential pick while bantering onstage.
“Sir, I have only one vice president… My date tonight. Mali your choice, ‘no?” Cuneta said, prompting laughter from the crowd.
She quickly tempered the remark, adding, “Okay, okay. Let’s move on.”
Cuneta later underscored her backing for the chief executive.
“Basta, Mr. President, you have my support,” she said.
The actress attended the event with her husband, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, who ran for vice president in 2022 as the running mate of then–Vice President Leni Robredo. Pangilinan placed second to Sara Duterte-Carpio in the vice presidential race.
Marcos and Duterte-Carpio won the presidency and vice presidency, respectively, in 2022. Since then, political observers have noted the evolving dynamics between the two leaders, who have taken separate political paths in recent months.
The gala gathered prominent personalities from the entertainment industry in a celebration honoring artists who continue to inspire the public./PN
