Man drowns in Calatrava beach

BACOLOD City – A 50-year-old man was found lifeless on the shore of a beach resort in Barangay San Isidro, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Wednesday afternoon, May 15.

The victim was identified as Jerry Caparas, a resident of Barangay Bagonbon, San Carlos City.

According to Police Major Ronald Santillan, chief of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station (MPS), after a drinking binge with his relatives, Caparas went to the beach to swim.

Minutes later, Santillan said the victim was seen floating on the shore.

Caparas was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, police added.

In a radio interview, Calatrava MPS deputy chief Captain Jesus Alba said the resort has no lifeguard./PN
