BACOLOD City – The man found dead along the national highway in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Sunday has been identified.

The 46-year-old Levy Ortega was a resident of Purok Villamar, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.

The remains were positively identified by Ortega’s next of kin, said Police Captain Romulo Gepilango, deputy police chief of Himamaylan City.

Ortega was abducted by unidentified armed men near his home, according to Bacolod City Police Office’s Police Station 4 commander, Police Major Richie Gohee.

Regarding the placard recovered next to Ortega’s remains, Gepilango said Barangay Aguisan captain Anthony “Macoy” Javelosa confirmed he was the person named on it.

However, Javelosa pointed out that he does not know the other persons named in the placard – a certain “Bebot Murillo” and “Boy Tapang”.

Gepilango also said Javelosa had no idea if the incident was “politically motivated” (he is running for congressman in the province’s 5th District), or if it is a death threat.

On April 24, a hogtied Ortega was found dead in Barangay Aguisan, Himamaylan City. He had a gunshot wound on the head which was wrapped in a plastic bag.

Police recovered two spent shells of a .45 pistol and an empty bullet shell of a 5.56 gun./PN
