BACOLOD City — Police are investigating the death of a 39-year-old man whose body was found submerged in an irrigation canal in Purok Narra, Barangay Malingin, Bago City, on Tuesday morning.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Edmon,” a single vendor and resident of Purok Goldenfield, Barangay Atipuluan, Bago City, was discovered at about 7:20 a.m. on July 7. Authorities have yet to identify the suspect or suspects.
Police said Punong Barangay Elvira Zulueta of Barangay Atipuluan reported the discovery to the Bago City Police Station at around 8:05 a.m. through a cellphone call.
A team of responding police officers, along with members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit and the investigator-on-case, proceeded to the scene to verify the report and conduct an initial investigation.
According to the victim’s brothers, identified only by the aliases “Edmar” and “Enocencio,” they had been searching for their missing sibling when they found him submerged inside an irrigation structure along the canal.
They retrieved the victim from the water and placed him on the embankment, where they noticed multiple injuries on different parts of his body.
Personnel of the Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the victim to the Bago City Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Police have launched a full investigation to identify those responsible for the killing and determine the motive behind the crime./PN
