BACOLOD City – A 31-year-old man was stabbed by his neighbor at around 10:10 p.m. in Barangay Mansilingan here on Saturday, February 21.
The victim, identified as Jonel Morada, was reportedly resting when he was suddenly attacked by the suspect identified by the alias “Amed” in Purok Kahirup B.
Authorities said the suspect used a bladed weapon during the assault.
In a radio interview, Police Captain Jay-R Reyes, commander of Bacolod Police Station 7, said Morada suffered minor injuries to his hand and leg. He was immediately brought to a nearby hospital and was in stable condition as of press time.
Meanwhile, police arrested Amed at his residence shortly after the incident. According to Reyes, the suspect’s mother informed authorities that her son has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and presented a medical certificate to support the claim.
Investigators noted that there was no prior dispute or known grudge between the suspect and the victim, leading police to consider the suspect’s mental condition as a possible factor in the stabbing.
Reyes added that they are awaiting the victim’s decision on whether to file formal charges.
As of this writing, the suspect remained in police custody for further investigation. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
