ROXAS City – A 5-year-old boy unintentionally landed his father in jail after he revealed information about the latter’s alleged felony.

Renelet Avelino, a resident of Barangay V, was arrested in an entrapment operation on Sept. 28, a police report showed.

Investigation revealed that Avelino took away from an ukay-ukay store a sack filled with shoes, jewelry and cellular phones.

The items were valued at an estimated P40,000, police said.

Store owner Maria Junet Pernito, 30, became suspicious after Avelino’s son went to her store and told her that he received a gift from his father – a sack of shoes.

According to the boy, not a single pair of shoes from the sack fitted him.

On the same day, Pernito inventoried the items at her store and found out that some of them were missing.

Pernito reported to the Roxas City police station, which caught Avelino in his house a few meters from the store.

“I did not expect that he will do this to us,” said Pernito. “He made friends with us and would often charge his cell phone here.”

According to Superintendent Dante Tayco, a robbery case was filed against Avelino./PN
