MALINAO, Aklan – A police hot pursuit operation resulted to the arrest of the primary suspect in a shooting here.

Jose Ronelio Naig, 59, of Barangay Biga-a, was nabbed on July 16, Saturday. The suspect allegedly opened fire, killing a drinking buddy in their village on Friday night.

Police are investigating the death of 56-year-old Jimmy Gregorio who was shot to death on the balcony of his home.

The 17-year old son of the victim is also being treated at the Aklan provincial hospital in Kalibo, Aklan for a minor injury.

Malinao acting chief of police, Lieutenant Gelbert Batiles said they responded to the crime scene at around 11:20 p.m. to conduct an investigation and then led the police officers in a hot pursuit operation.

Gregorio was declared dead on arrival at the Aklan provincial hospital by attending physicians due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Naig and Gregorio were having a drinking spree when a heated argument erupted. After their drinking session in Naig’s cottage (payag), Gregorio and his son went home.

Later, they were shot with a .38 revolver on the balcony of their home.

“Nag-inuman sila at nagkaroon ng pagtatalo. Narinig ng anak ni Jimmy at kaagad pinuntahan niya ito upang ma-pacify. Umuwi ang mag-ama, ngunit, binaril sila habang paakyat sa kanilang bahay. Magkaibigan ang biktima at ang suspek, halos araw-araw magkasama sila,” said Batiles in RMN DyKR Kalibo interview./PN
