ILOILO City — A 48-year-old man was arrested on Friday for alleged gun running during an entrapment operation in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo City.
The suspect was identified as alias “Don-Don,” a resident of Barangay Dungon B, Jaro, Iloilo City. He was arrested at around 3:35 p.m.
Police Lt. Col. Donnel Regis, chief of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Intelligence Unit, said the operation stemmed from information received by authorities regarding the suspect’s alleged involvement in illegal firearms trading.
Acting on the tip, police immediately conducted an entrapment operation using an asset who transacted for the purchase of a caliber .22 revolver with two rounds of ammunition worth P1,200.
Recovered from the suspect were a black belt bag, a black leather pouch, and a coin purse.
The suspect is currently detained at Police Station 6 and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Police Col. Wilbert Parilla said the arrest was part of the ICPO’s sustained operations against loose firearms in the city.
“Every illegal firearm recovered is a potential crime prevented. We will remain relentless in our efforts to remove loose firearms from our communities and hold violators accountable under the law,” Parilla said.
ICPO urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any information regarding illegal firearms activities to help maintain peace and order in Iloilo City.
Records from ICPO showed that from May 1 to May 31, the office conducted 53 operations that led to the recovery of 53 firearms and the arrest of four individuals.
