BACOLOD City — A 52-year-old man was shot dead following an alleged heated altercation with another resident in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, on the afternoon of September 1, 2026.
Police identified the victim as alias “Roger,” a resident of Purok St. Vincent in the barangay. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead following the shooting at around 2 p.m.
The alleged gunman was identified as alias “Budoy,” 37, who also resides in the same area.
Based on the initial investigation by Police Station 7 of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), the victim and suspect allegedly engaged in a heated argument for still undetermined reasons.
Lt. Col. Lester L. Leada, deputy city director for administration of the BCPO, said that following the altercation, the suspect reportedly went to his residence, obtained an unidentified firearm, and returned to the area, where he allegedly shot the victim several times.
The suspect then fled the scene, prompting police to launch hot-pursuit and dragnet operations.
At around 6:30 p.m. the same day, police apprehended the suspect at Gardenville Subdivision in Barangay Tangub.
Witnesses positively identified the suspect, who remains in police custody as investigators continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Leada said the firearm allegedly used in the incident has yet to be recovered.
According to Leada, the suspect reportedly disposed of the weapon after the shooting. Investigators are continuing their search for the firearm.
Police are also looking into other possible reasons behind the shooting aside from the reported altercation.
Leada noted that the victim and suspect appeared to know each other, as both were residents of the same area.
However, authorities have yet to determine the exact motive for the killing, including what triggered the argument and caused it to escalate into violence.
Police are continuing the investigation and documentation of the case, while appropriate charges are being prepared for filing before the court.
The BCPO reiterated its commitment to responding swiftly to criminal incidents and pursuing individuals responsible for violent acts, Leada said.
