ILOILO City – A man was fatally shot inside a salon in Barangay Purok 4, Pavia, Iloilo yesterday afternoon, in what authorities suspect to be a crime fueled by jealousy.

The victim, identified as Joven Galvez Job, 35, of Barangay Sapal, San Lorenzo, Guimaras, was with his live-in partner when the alleged gunman, known only as “Arnold” entered the salon along Gonzaga Street around 12:30 p.m.

According to the police, Arnold, 41, a resident of Barangay Cabugao Norte, Pavia, Iloilo, pulled out a homemade 12-gauge shotgun and shot Job in the left shoulder.

Job was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead at 12:48 p.m.

Police Master Sergeant Luther Maderse, the lead investigator, said jealousy appears to be the motive behind the attack.

“The suspect reportedly warned the victim the night before to stay away from the salon. Despite this, the victim returned around 9 a.m. to retrieve some belongings,” Maderse said.

Arnold, who reportedly could not move on from his relationship with Joilyn, the victim’s current live-in partner, has been under police scrutiny.

Joilyn, an employee at the salon, had a prior relationship with Arnold, which ended in June. They have three children together but were not married.

Records show that Arnold had been previously reported for breaking one of the salon’s glass windows in June.

The suspect was arrested and detained at the Pavia police station./PN
