ILOILO – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed the appointment of Joan Germinanda as the 1st District Board member in this province.
“Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed member, Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), Province of Iloilo,” read part of the appointment letter signed by Marcos on Jan. 30, 2023, addressed to Germinanda.
It added: “By virtue hereof, you may qualify and perform the duties of the office, furnishing this office, the Civil Service Commission, and the Commission on Elections with copies of your Oath of Office.”
Germinanda is a native of Guimbal town and served as the chief of staff to 1st District’s Cong. Janette Garin.
She was endorsed by the Lakas-CMD (Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats) to succeed former 1st District Board member Carmelo Nochete.
Nochete was appointed regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 on September 2022.
Then Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Iloilo director and current DILG-Negros Occidental director Teodora Sumagaysay said the nominee must come from Lakas-CMD.
“The nominee should come from the same political party as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan member who caused the vacancy. So, kon ano ang political party ni Nochete dira man mahalin ang nominee,” explained Sumagaysay.
The highest official of the political party only needed to submit the name of a nominee to take Nochete’s vacated position.
In Iloilo, the highest official of LAKAS-CMD is Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) undersecretary Jesry Palmares, who first confirmed to Panay News that he would endorse Germinanda to the LAKAS-CMD national headquarters headed by Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, chairperson of the political party.
Germinanda will attend her first SP regular session on Feb. 14./PN
