
MANILA – Domark Matillano achieved a personal milestone as Muntinlupa Cagers Lakan scored an 83-60 victory over Parañaque Patriots in the 2025 MPBL Season on Thursday night at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
Matillano tallied a team-high of 22 points, including six three-point conversions, to become the 42nd member of the MPBL’s 1,000 points club as the Cagers improved to an 8-2 win-loss slate.
“Siyempre sobrang happy na mapabilang sa 1,000 points club, factor din siguro na sobrang welcome din uli ako dito sa Muntinlupa,” Matillano said in his Player of the Game interview.
“Mas nagje-jell kaming mga players habang tumatagal ‘yung season, kumbaga siyempre ‘yung coaches malaking bagay din na ginagabayan kami kaya kami nananalo,” added the Bacolod City-native guard.
Alvin Capobres finished with a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Paolo Castro and Deo Timajo added 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the Patriots dropped to a 1-7 record.
Meanwhile, Biñan Tatak Gel Beast Motorcycle Tires GameX (7-3) overcame a late surge by Basilan Viva Portmasters (3-7) to pull off a close 68-66 victory.
Biñan were ahead at 68-59 with over a minute left, the Viva Portmasters got a split free throw from John Mahari and consecutive three-pointers from Sherwin Concepcion and Alex Cabagnot to cut the deficit to 66-68 with seven seconds left.
Carlo Lastimosa then missed two free throws that could have extended Biñan’s advantage, but the Viva Portmasters failed to secure the rebound as the final buzzer sounded.
Lastimosa led the way for Biñan with 12 points, Kristan Hernandez had a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Kenny Rogers Rocacurva contributed 10 markers in the win.
GenSan Warriors (6-5), on the other hand, scored a lopsided 107-86 victory over Davao Occidental Tigers (3-4). Kyle Tolentino finished with 22 points, including five triples, for the Warriors./PN
