STA. BARBARA ILOILO – Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Corporation (MIB) inaugurated on Friday, September 6, 2019 its upgraded water treatment plant in Barangay Talanghauan, Sta. Barbara, as part of its commitment to provide Ilonggos with consistent water supply.
MIB, a joint venture of Metro Pacific Water (MPW) and Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD), completed the rehabilitation and upgrade of facilities in the Sta. Barbara Water Treatment Plant last August 14.
The Sta. Barbara Water Treatment Plant can now distribute 50 million liters of water per day (MLD), an increase from its previous capacity of 37 MLD, to consumers in Iloilo City and municipalities of Pavia and Sta. Barbara.
For the rehabilitation and upgrade project, MIB focused on improving the technological capabilities of the facility. Notable upgrades can be seen on the raw water pump capacity increase, better PAC dosing system, conversion to Superpulsator using lamella plates with improved vacuum system, and conversion of V-Filter technology from siphon-flow control to level-controlled system.
MIB also upgraded the treatment plant’s water quality online analyzer instruments and piping-valves-instrumentation system. It also improved the interfacing of the entire plant process using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
For MIB, upgrading the facility is a great opportunity for the company’s personnel to enhance their skills and experiences.
“With continuous skills training, we are confident that MIB will advance to become a globally competitive water service provider, capable of meeting the growing water demand of residents and the thriving business community of Iloilo,” Jonet S. Sanalila, AVP for Business Development of MPW, said in his speech during the inauguration ceremony.
Sanalila added that Metro Pacific Water is committed to working with Iloilo LGUs in securing Ilonggos access to clean and safe water through a world-class water supply and distribution facility.
Sta. Barbara Water Treatment Plant, a rehabilitated, upgraded and state of the art water facility is designed and build to cater the water needs of the Ilonggos particularly in the City of Iloilo, Municipalities of Sta. Barbara and Pavia.
“Without water or less water, everyday life of every family is difficult. Without water economic activities and businesses are affected negatively,” said Engr. Rolixto Jodieres Jr., Chief Operating Officer of Metro Iloilo Bulk Water.
Jodieres Jr., added that this project is one step level up for Ilonggos to forthcoming greater projects for water security of Iloilo, which will support the economy as well as create further jobs- directly or indirectly.
2nd District of Iloilo Congressman and former mayor of Pavia Michael Gorriceta said “Upgrading of MIB Sta. Barbara Water Treatment Plant is timely and of great help with the fast growing economic development of Pavia having an opportunity to encourage more investors through the importance of having sufficient supply of potable water to communities”./PN
