ILOILO City —The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) is improving its supply and distribution of water to keep pace with Iloilo’s development, particularly the construction sector.
MIWD Information Officer Olive Ledesma said in a PIA interview that at present there is additional water production with its bulk water suppliers.
“On top of our efforts is the reduction of losses brought about by leakages, non-revenue water, water losses during distribution,” Ledesma said.
She added that with the non-revenue water, almost 50 percent of the water supply goes to waste.
“Only 30 percent of water distributed go to consumers because of the non-revenue water,” Ledesma said.
Recently, the MIWD has entered into a joint venture agreement with the Metropac Water Investment Corporation which will provide additional funds to improve production and distribution.
The partnership, among others, will ease the long process of fixing broken pipelines and leakages.
“This will help us to realize our aim of increasing our water supply, by at least, 70 percent,” Ledesma said.
Meanwhile, in a press statement, the Metropac Water Investment Corporation said the JVA with the MIWD puts more premiums on repairs and rehabilitation of facilities to improve water services.
It added that the introduction of technical expertise in the MIWD is one of the highlights of the JVA. (PIA)
