ILOILO City – Fire gutted two houses, a laundry shop and a Chinese temple on Fuentes Street, Barangay Liberation, City Proper yesterday morning. A firefighter was injured.
The fire broke out a little past 9 a.m. It initially razed the house of Caren Barios Mangubat then that of Belina Madayag.
The two houses, made of mixed light materials and concrete, were totally burned.
The nearby Lorensey Laundry Shop and Guang Fo Yuan temple were partially damaged.
The Bureau of Fire Protection’s Senior Police Officer 2 Jerry Gedoria injured a left foot. He accidentally stepped on a nail.
City Fire Marshal Christopher Regencia said it took firefighters two hours to completely put out the fire.
Initial investigation pointed to electricity “overloading” at Mangubat’s house as the cause of the blaze, said Regencia.
“We have to be careful with our electrical appliances this summer season,” he stressed.
Total damage reached P400,000, said Regencia.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, April 23 recorded the highest heat index of 38.4 degrees Celsius./PN
