Motorcycle driver dead, 3 hurt in Lambunao vehicular accident

ILOILO City – A vehicular accident in Barangay Maite Pequeño, Lambunao, Iloilo on Saturday night left one man dead and three others injured.

Sulpicio Losbañes Jr. of Barangay Aglibacao, Calinog, Iloilo, motorcycle driver, died at the Lambunao District Hospital.

The three injured were taken to the same hospital. They were Losbañes’ back rider Rey Derecho, 51, of Barangay Pasig, Lambunao; Jose Elmer Subong, 52, also of Barangay Pasig; and April Love Latoza, 40, of Barangay Caninguan, Lambunao.
According to Chief Inspector Jogen Suegay, Lambunao police chief, the accident happened at around 9:30 p.m.

Losbañes’ motorcycle collided with the motorcycle of Subong who had Latoza as back rider.

A passing Toyota Revo sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Rustom Laguardia, 41, of Barangay Caninguan, further hit Losbañes.

“Losbañes did not die due to the collision of motorcycles. He was sideswiped by the SUV,” said Suegay.
Laguarda faces a charge of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple frustrated homicide.

Suegay said a relative of Laguardia identified as Rian Libuna, 36, of Barangay Walang, Lambunao, would be charged with obstruction of justice.

According to Suegay, Libuna told the police he was the SUV driver and not Laguardia.

Laguardia surrendered to the Lambunao police at 11 a.m. yesterday./PN
