BACOLOD City – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has shut down five “Peryahan ng Bayan” draw centers in Negros Occidental for alleged illegal operation.

Atty. Renoir Baldovino, head of NBI-Bacolod City, said on Sunday search warrants were issued against branches in Murcia, E.B. Magalona, Hinigaran, Himamaylan City, and Victorias City.

Baldovino said 36 collectors and staff were arrested.

In 2014, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office issued a deed of authority to a company in order for them to operate “Peryahan ng Bayan” in Negros Occidental.

Baldovino noted the deed expired last 2016 but operators of the numbers game reportedly continued running.

The arrested suspects face charges for violation of RA 9287, an amendment to Presidential Decree 1602, which implemented penalties on illegal gambling./PN
