NBTC Iloilo leg opens today at WIT gym

MANILA – After being postponed twice, the Iloilo qualifying leg of the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) will finally open today at the Western Institute of Technology Gym.

Tournament director Joe-an Tenorio told Panay News the Iloilo qualifier is finally a go after being delayed due to the late release of funds from NBTC in Manila.

Tenorio added that, from the original 18 squads, the participants were trimmed to 16 teams. Iloilo Doctors College and Santa Isabel College of Iloilo backed out at the last minute.

Defending Iloilo leg champions Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix still leads the Group A along with PAREF-Westbridge, The Integrated Academy School Systems, Inc. and Mandurriao National High School.

In Group B, meanwhile, were last year’s runner-up Santa Clarita International School Primes, St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets, Ateneo de Iloilo, and St. Paul University Iloilo.

Teams in Group C were CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights, Central Philippine University Golden Lions, Sun Yat Sen High School, and Assumption School-Passi City, Inc.

In Group D, on the other hand, were John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, Iloilo National High School, University of San Agustin and Filipino American School Town.

The champion in the Iloilo leg will advance to the NBTC Regionals along with qualifiers from Capiz and Guimaras, where a slot into the NBTC National Finals in Manila is at stake./PN
