NCAA men’s basketball: Lyceum, Letran lock in semis seats

MANILA – Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates locked in on the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball semifinals after a 77-64 win over Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers at the San Juan Arena.


Jaycee Marcelino top-scored with 23 points. Mike Nzeusseu chimed in double-double 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pirates now has a 13-4 win-loss slate.


“It’s gonna be big for us to create momentum as we go to the stretch. Kumbaga ito na ang home stretch ng season,” said Pirates head coach Topex Robinson. “Every opportunity for us to really learn and grow is gonna be big for us.”


Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, meanwhile, also locked in on the third semifinals seat after scoring an emphatic 88-69 rout of University of Perpetual Help Altas.


Jerrick Balanza and Christian Balagasay tallied 18 points each, while Ato Ular and Fran Yu added 17 and 14 markers, respectively, as the Knights improved to 11-6 win-loss slate.


Also-ran Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, meanwhile, continued its late surge in the elimination round after a 77-50 annihilation of the Arellano University Chiefs.


Graduating Renz Gonzales paced the 4-13 Generals with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists, Adrian De Guzman got 12 markers and seven boards and Jethro Mendoza added 11 points./PN
